Our community thanks you!

Small town, big impact

The World Pond Hockey Championship helped fund the construction of the Phil Sharkey Memorial Centre, Welcome Centre and Pavillion.  These wonderful additions to our home serve as gathering spaces for community members to host events, be active and remain social all year round.

This annual event has become more than just a sporting competition; it has evolved into a catalyst for economic growth and community development.

The influx of participants, spectators, and media during the tournament has consistently injected a substantial amount of revenue into our community. Local businesses, from restaurants and hotels to shops and service providers, experience a surge in customer traffic. The increased demand for accommodations and dining options creates opportunities for business expansion and increased job opportunities, even if temporarily.

Moreover, the World Pond Hockey Championship serves as a platform to showcase our town to a global audience. Media coverage and the presence of international participants draw attention to the charm and hospitality of our community, potentially attracting tourists even outside the event period. This exposure contributes to the long-term growth of local tourism, benefitting various sectors such as hospitality, recreation, and local attractions.

The positive impact extends beyond the economic sphere. The tournament fosters a sense of community pride and unity. Local residents actively engage with the event, volunteering, and participating in festivities, creating a vibrant atmosphere that resonates throughout the town. This shared experience not only strengthens community bonds but also contributes to the overall appeal of our town as a welcoming and lively destination.

As we reflect on the continued success of the World Pond Hockey Championship, it is evident that this event has become a cornerstone of our local identity. Its economic and social contributions underscore the importance of nurturing and supporting such initiatives that not only bring prosperity but also enhance the overall well-being of our community.
